The Gift of the Sabbath

Exodus 20:8-11

“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.”

Hallowed - means greatly revered and honored, to make holy, to consecrate.

Holy - means to consecrate to God, moral and spiritual excellence.

Consecration - the action of declaring or making something sacred.

The Truth

  1. No one has been authorized by God to change the Sabbath to Sunday - to alter his commandments.

  2. The Sabbath is a sign between God and his people, the children of Israel, forever and throughout all generations

  3. The Sabbath is the only day of the week that God named.

  4. We were given the charge to watch over it, to honor it, and to keep it holy.

  5. He never said we no longer need to observe His Sabbath.

  6. Some will say that the Sabbath no longer applies, most people attempt to use Paul word to support such belief

2 Peter 3:15-17

And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own steadfastness.

7. Paul never contradicted the word but his word has been distorted

Colossians 2:16

Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holy day, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

8. Paul used this verse to encourage the Hebrew believers not to let the Gentiles nonbelievers who were not observers of the Sabbath

Colossians 2:8

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

9. The heathen were telling the Colossians not to keep the feast days - this is why Paul is saying let no man judge you. He was railing the entire time against the heathens and their traditions.

10. Foreshadow of things to come - means that they are to be followed as reminders of that which is yet to happen. It represents the thousand years of rest in the millennium

2 Peter 3:8

But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day

11. God created everything in six days and then ceased on the Sabbath day

12. Now consider this: what was the command the Messiah gave his disciples just before He ascended to heaven?

Matthew 28:18-20

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway.

13. They were to be a light to all the Hebrews, to teach and walk in truth. The day will come in the Millennium, the Sabbath day of God when we will even rest from the work making disciples.

Jeremiah 31: 34

And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

14. Just as we rest on the seventh day we will also rest on the seventh Millennium, known in prophecy as The Day of The Lord.

15. The seventh day of the week represents the Millennial reign of Messiah.

Acts 3:21

Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began

16. He must remain in heaven until the time comes for God to restore everything as he promised

Isaiah 66:22-23

For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain. And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another,

and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.

Luke 23:56

And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.

17. That was after the death and resurrection of the Messiah. His true followers will observe His Sabbath. If Messiah wanted to change Sabbath he would have said it in scriptures.

Matthew 28:18-20

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Matthew 23: 1-3

Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples, Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat: All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.

18. He commanded them to obey Moses, these were the last words the Messiah said to his disciples.

19. The New Testament is all about writing his words in our hearts that we may obey all of it

The Problem

1. So how did this happen? The Catholic Church said by their divine power they changed the Sabbath day to Sunday. Thus the entire world bowed down in reverent obedience to their command. This law was enacted in AD 321, they demanded the 4th commandment of God be broken.

Mark 7:6-13

He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition. For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death: But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free. And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother; Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.

2. It is important to remember that just as Elohim made the Sabbath day holy he also made us his chosen people holy. It is the day that he set apart as a reminder to us that we may never forget.

3. We are to be the light of the world, light means walking in and leading the world into his truth.

Deuteronomy 4:4-6

But ye that did cleave unto the LORD your God are alive every one of you this day. Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as the LORD my God commanded me, that ye should do so in the land whither ye go to possess it. Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.

Isaiah 42:6

I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;
